Default LS7 and T56

Hey. I have searched the site and did not find my answer so here I go. I have an LS7 left over from a project that I sold. It has TSP ported heads, MAST Motorsports cam and spring kit, and a FAST 102mm intake and cable driven throttle body. I want to use it now in my 2001 SLP SS. I have already had my T56 upgraded with metal shift forks, upgraded gears, and other items. I also have a complete McLoed RTS twin disc clutch kit with flywheel Nib for the LS7 What else would I need to do or buy to get this transmission to work with the 600hp LS7? This is a 100% street car. I have to finish up with the car that I’m working on right now and then I will be collecting on stuff for this one. The car only has 62,000 miles on it now so I have time. I also plan on getting the Dana S60 rear end. I don’t think my .390 year 10 bolt will hold up with 19x12 Grand Sport wheels and the LS7 power. Thanks.

Bolt it together, get a driveshaft/shifter/oil, job done.

What else do you think you will need ?

Maybe the correct pilot bushing. My trans has everything but the Viper main shaft. The car should make close to 540 or so RWHP so I don’t think I will need much more. It would be nice if the rear end would work. That would really speed things up. I have thought about just converting it to wet sump and bolting it in. I have long tube headers and big y-pipe and SLP CME 3” cat back exhaust. Those items would cost me a chunk of power.

Presumably the crank would already have a suitable bearing, but yes you would need to check.

Thanks. I was very happy with the end product. She made the covers just like I drew them up. It was a pain to install but well worth it. I have learned from past projects that it only cost a little more but the extra effort pays off. I have also collected up on all of the items that I need to convert my LS7 to a wet sump engine. I just need to find a machine shop to swap out my reluctor wheel. As for the transmission, I am saving up for the T56 F right now. I am going to keep the original engine and transmission together. I might put that in my father in law’s ‘65 El Camino.

LS7 is 6 bolt crank for flywheel just like LS1/2/3/6... run the Fbody pilot bearing and slave cylinder. You will be good to go!

Hey. Thanks for the response. As it worked out I have almost enough left over from selling my’70 Camaro to get the T56 F. That way I can keep my original drivetrain together and save it for later.

Stock 160k mile T56 here holding 600whp without issue. Long as you get the right pilot/slave cylinder space and a good clutch like you have, you should be set.

I have an RPM Level 5 T56 and my main gripe with it is the dual synchros. The 1-2 upshift is getting more difficult at high rpm. Back in those days I didn't know enough to ask for triple synchros. But times have changed and building a T56 makes no sense IMO ever since the release of the Magnum F at $3400. That was a game changer.

That’s what I went with, the Magnum F. Very slick shifting transmission. If you have the money for your project definitely sell your old 6 speed and get the Magnum F.
