Default you guys with poly or solid engine mounts

how in the hell are you doing clutch swaps? with the factory rubber mounts, it hangs down pretty far with the trans crossbrace removed, but still a little tough for the top bell bolts. but i feel with poly it wont go down enough and solid forget it....

I replaced mine last year (2017), it was a total bitch, I have poly mounts. I think the only one I had real trouble with was the very top center one, in which I used a small swivel extension that I taped up so it wouldn't swivel too freely, and taped the socket to it so it wouldn't come off, and then a regular ~6" straight extension connected to that. I think I started to thread the bolt in by hand and then got the socket on it and used an electric drill to get it as tight as I could. Also I took a hammer to the underside of the car to massage some of the areas to make it easier to fit the extensions and everything and definitely hammered on it just out of pure rage and frustration lol . I remember contemplating just leaving that one out, but once I figured out a good way to get it in there it wasn't too bad.

I have had the trans out a number of times with poly mounts. I use about 4 feet of extensions and it isn't really that bad... well with the car on a lift. I've never bashed my floor or anything. Hardest bolt for me is the torque arm top clam shell bolt, I hate trying to get that in and out.

Those are the ones I am talking about. A swivel and a bunch of extensions, maybe a swivel extension actually. Anyway, the angle is pretty shallow... it works.

Try loosening up the motor mounts a bit so they will allow you to drop the trans a couple inches. I also always pull the trans from the bellhousing, leaving the bell housing bolted up. This makes those top bolts really easy to get to.

What do you mean the cradle is out? Like you have the engine/trans and Kmember out of the car? If so I would say it isn't a bad idea to do a little hammering then. Although I would just reinstall the engine and trans while the are already mated together outside the car.

Lower the k member. I have solid mounts and when I did my clutch I just lowered the k member a little. Simple as that.

you literally just jack it up to transmission removal height? then support the k member, unbolt, then lower a few inches? nothing gets in the way of that? not even brake lines?

different body style so may not be tight clearance when trying to loosen the bell. i will probably just massage it a little underneath just to be safe

I have solid mounts and can still pull the trans with the car on jack stands. For the top bolts, just use a swivel on a really long extension and you’ll be good to go.

Get a small magnet and put in the end of the socket.

I just did an engine swap and found that when the intake is removed, you can get to the top and driver top side bolts fairly easy. Like I said..... I did this during an engine swap with the motor still in car and no intake. Just a thought.......

sounds like a worst case scenario but will keep in mind. that may be something for the solid mount guys though, much better than lowering the k member imo

I have the prothane motor mounts as well. Just found it easier than fighting those damn bolts from below.
