Burned T56 question
It could be totally scrap on all levels, or it might be ok. You'd need to see it and the car before making that assessment as to whether the fire may have caused harm
When a new Magnum is a bit over $3k...it would seem hard to buy an unknown used T56 for $2k, although if you specifically need F fitment, then converted Magnums are a bit more expensive.
I'd check the input and output seals first, if the rubber is still intact that's a good sign, same with the shifter,, pulling the shifter lets you see inside to a small extent,, are the rubber and plastic bits torched? Does the fluid smell cooked?
What do the external connections if any look like? Like the Speedo sensor, backup light switch connector etc.. all clues as to condition..
