SLP / Hurst Shifter "Exploded" Internally!
This is the the SLP shifter SLP sold back in the day for $99. Always thought it was build by Hurst. I bought it very early after buying the car, so the shifter is probably 20 years old. I put the stock shifter back in for now and everything is good...just forgot how sloppy the OEM shifter really is!
Anyone ever heard of this happening with an SLP or Hurst shifter? I haven't, so I'm puzzled! Any idea what "exploded"?
Hurst, or the eBay guy who sells parts for them may have parts. Disassembly isn't tough.

Where were the aluminum parts and junk? Did you try unscrewing the 4 Allen screws on the top of the shifter that expose the springs? Taking the springs and the spring base plates out will expose a lot of the internal areas.

See the chunks coming out? This is out the bottom of the shifter and these could fall into the transmission which I’m sure can’t be good!
Top of shifter with rubber boot removed. No Allen head bolts to remove to get inside...
Close-ups of chunks visible from top of shifter.
Chunks removed already. They’re not magnetic, but not sure if they’re metal or hard plastic...
Another close-up from top with chunks visible...

i couldn’t ask for better customer service!
EDIT: I should say though that the paint job that SLP did on the hood and spoiler for the SS was much better than the standard GM paint on the rest of the car.

Time for a new shifter, for sure.
