Default Tick Short Throw Shifter

Anyone else seen this or plan on buying one? I still have never upgraded my Hurst and have considered MGW and Hinson but I know Tick makes quality ****. This one is priced between MGW and Hinson as well. Personally just love seeing new products come on the market for these old cars.

Im waiting to see if someone running a MGW puts the Tick performance on and if there is much difference, I imagine not much. Seems like a company that sells and modifies transmissions that this would be a good asset to add when purchasing from them.

Same here, pretty much looking for somones experience who have used both. Hinson never grew on the forum from what I saw but they all seem like solid options. MGW is most popular but I always wondered if it is because it is the cheapest or actual best option.

I put a MGW on a few months ago. Initially it was pretty stiff. Seems to have softened up a bit. Like a hot knife through I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.

I literally ordered my MGW shifter last month and then I saw Tick was releasing this! Also in for the comparison between it and the MGW.

Gotta say though, my MGW is hands down the best shifter I’ve ever used

I like how the mgw shift rod is a simple straight bar. I can make myself one of any length and any thread type I want. I recently put in a rod 1-in longer and it improved the effort and feel more to my liking.

Can anyone provide some input on an MGW vs. Tick shifter? Looking at ordering one of these for my new Magnum F style T56.

on one of the fbody fb pages a guy said he had all the shifters , hinson , tick , mgw , hurst and the tick is the best one , said reverse was easy to get to , it shifts smooth , no way you would miss 3rd and ti has an o ring seal on the shifter . If it was me i would go with the tick , i have had a pro 5.0 and a mgw and the mgw is great but i think the tick isnt worse in any way so i would give it a shot for the hell of it .

FYI... The first batch of Tick shifters had a small machining defect in the base plate. It was a low impact issue regarding the alignment of the mounting holes. I believe the issue has been resolved.

Just ordered one of these to replace the Hurst and short stick combo. My past manual muscle cars have had MGWs which were all a bit notchy but had a very nice direct feel. I'll report back with my thoughts on it.

Good luck with that and we'll look forward to hearing back. As far as my experience and reports on here go, any aftermarket shifter is going to increase notichiness, and my factory Hurst is notchy enough already for my tastes. And it's as smooth or smoother than any other one I've driven.

I don't have any beef with the stock Hurst just after 11 years of owning the car I am ready to change it up. I always read MGW was the most recommended then Hinson came out with a new product and I almost tried them. I do trust Tick though when it comes to transmissions so why not. I haven't upgraded anything on my car in years and decided this winter was the time to spend some money.

Mgw is great but for some reason last short shifters I got from them they did not centered by itself and reverse was hard as hell to place select it, Now Tick is different reverse is a butter and way better than stock or mgw for me.

I've had my Tick shifter for over a month now, shifts seem a tad longer than my other MGW shifters but it's no where near as notchy. I like it a lot and I don't feel bad about the purchase. Shifts are effortless, now I just need to work on getting my shifts faster.

It's been fun working on that since my other F-body was a stalled auto and I skipped the HCI m6 and jumped straight to a HCI LS7 M6 F-Body.

I’m late to the party but here is my .02. I’ve had my Tick Performance short throw shifter in for a few days now. It feels great. Nice positive short throws. I’ve never owned a MGW but I have driven a car with it and the feel is very similar. My old z28 had a Hurst in it and it’s not even comparable. If I owned a MGW I probably wouldn’t switch but it’s for sure that I’ll only buy the Tick Performance short throw shifter for any fbody I own. It’s a great product and I’ve spent a lot of money with Tick over the years.
