Default Transmission Questions

Hello, I am very new to the Trans Am world, I have a 2001 WS6 m6 trans am. The transmission just sh*t the bed and I am trying to find the transmission that will work, so I’ve done some research and seen that it’s the tremac trans, but there’s all sorts of t56s out there. Can anybody please show me in the right direction please! Thank you in advanced

Yes, I have a very good suggestion, try contacting RPM Transmissions. Not sure if they still are a vendor over here, however they are known for fantastic rebuilds. I have owned and driven one of their L-IV T-56's, and one of their L-V T-56's. You would be hard pressed to find any better alternatives.

Rebuild stock is an option, certainly. Yours should sell.
A GTO unit can bolt in except for the shifter lever needs swapped. And the 1-3, 5-6 ratios differ.
A new T56 Magnum-F is a bolt-in, but has different 5-6 ratios, and requires a slip-yoke change.
A new T56 Magnum (regular) needs a shifter offset, crossmember, shorter driveline and new yoke. 5-6 will also vary.

I prefer the last. Budget and the intent of the car matter, of course.

I use Tick and have for past 20+ years. Always had great service from them. My sons trans is there now getting some things done.

The Magnum F style is the way to go. Keep the 2.66 ratio. Simple swap to a 31 spline yoke for the front of the driveshaft. The 4 bolts shifter of the F style is MUCH better than the 6 bolt style of the standard Magnum. Trust me.... I've driven both and installed both many many times. There is a $100 price difference between the two. After you buy the aftermarket shifter for the 6 bolt style and redo the driveshaft it costs quite a bit more.
