Default T56 Clutch sporadic engagement

Here goes: Clutch replaced 40k miles ago. I don't race so no hard launches. Recently took a 750 mile road trip and about 5 miles before I arrived home I left a 4 way stop and went to shift to 2nd and it would not go into gear. Any gear. Finally got it in 3rd or 4th. Drove home the rest of the way fine. Drove it a few days later and it was fine. Drove it a couple weeks after that and the same thing happened. Had to shut the car off to put it in gear then restart it. Got it back home let it sit for less than 5 minutes, took it for another drive and it shifted fine. I'm at a loss. What can be happening? And advice or recommendations are greatly appreciated!

Sounds like the clutch master or slave is going bad.

Yeah that's what I was afraid of. Slave going bad isn't gonna be fun. Any way to check which it is?

Have you flushed the fluid lately?

Not thoroughly. That is first up on my list.

IIRC, you disconnect the line at the side of transmission where it goes in the slave. If you can push the clutch pedal down, the master is failing. When you take the line off, there's a plunger than disengages and prevents any fluid to escape.

If you can't press the clutch pedal down, then the seals are holding and look at the slave.

I've only seen this once but, a 4th gen in the shop with strange clutch problems. The firewall around the clutch master cylinder had broken and was flexing when you pushed the pedal in.
