Default Cost of rebuilt T56?

What should I expect to pay and where can I get it through. I just want factory spec, I don't want to spend $2000 from D&D or somewhere like that. I just want 6th gear back and I don't trust anyone out here to do a rebuild for me.

make sure you get a set of billet slider keys to replace the stock ones.Thats the weakest part that goes and creates a chain reaction in your tranny.G-force transmissions sells them.Cost can range on who you have do it.Find a local tranny shop and try to catch one of the wotrkers at the end of there shift and see if they know anyone that builds manuals.Thats what I did, The guy that did mine had it apart in 15 minutes showed me what broke , told me what to get.I dropped the parts off to him on a friday night and picked it up sat. at noon done.cost of parts and labor was way less than going threw the shop.Find some one to build it on the side.

Do I actually need a rebuild? If 6th is out (won't engage), and it's grinding into 2nd (at high revs) and randomly grinding into 5th. After some recent research I think maybe it is my clutch, but would that explain my 6th gear problem?

If sixth gear won't engage, but your other gears will, what makes you think its your clutch?

If you just want your stock transmission back, a rebuild won't be too bad. But something happened to break the oem quality components in there this time....whats to say they won't again? Not saying higher quality are bulletproof...but you'll be much better off then oem.

I agree, just wondering IF there was a slight possibility. With 67,000 miles on the car, I think it is probably time for a new clutch, though I don't know when the previous owner had it replaced. I have had it for 12,000 miles. What will a typical tranny rebuild cost?

Since it's just 6th, the tranny doesn't even have to come out of the car. The tailshaft just needs to pulled off, and the 5/6 slider assembly needs to be replaced. I would charge about $225 for the repair.

Is that anything I could do myself (with the help of my friend's dad, the mechanic)?
