Default Clutch is GONE

Well a few hours ago i was gettin on the freeway, real hard, and i shifted it into 3rd, let out the clutch and that was all she wrote. . .my mods are:

lid, ls6 intake, pulley, cam:222/222 579/579 114 LSA, hooker L/T's, ORY, Magneflow, car is tuned.

A few days ago the clutch started sticking to the floor. I just got the cam and long tubes put in about a week ago. I figured it was gonna go soon. The car is a 98, and has 105K on it, that was the original clutch, yes the original clutch. I miss it, it was a good clutch

Anyway, i was wondering witch way i should go, i really dont have alot of cash. I want to re-use the stock flywheel, but with the mods and miles, is that possible? Witch clutch set-up should i go with? A cheap used Ls6 clutch sounds great, but how long would that last with 392rwhp and 386 rwt? I dont beat the hell out of my car, but with the new cam and long tubes, i do want to be able to open it up. I know that installation is gonna be about 300 plus, but what are the parts gonna cost?

Sorry about all the questions, i just really dont want to waste any money and have to redo this later. Thanks guys

TTP in the sponsors section was having a sale on their spec clutches. Don't know if it's still going on though. Sorry to hear about the dead clutch, but atleast it gives you a good excuse to upgrade. I have almost the same mods as you, minus the intake, and I decided to do it now rather than wait until it takes a crap on me. It was already starting to show signs of going out. If you do the install yourself, good luck.

It's not very difficult, just time consuming. I've been doing it over the past two days (you read right, 2 days), but that's because I'm taking my time with everything and I keep running into problems (seized up bell housing, incomplete pilot bearing puller, and that master cylinder is a biotch!).

my 98 has the original clutch as well. They arent the stonger clutches...still good though. I'm about to put a 231/237 in my car and decided to go ahead and put a spec stg 3 in there. You'll probaby wont to go ahead and get a new steel flywheel so it doesn't burn the clutch out.

Thank you Matt. Would i need both the x-pad and the iron disc, or just one. And if i do only need one, what is the difference? Thanks

The x pad is the clutch material. It's ceramic and carbon mixed. I would go with the steel flywheel.

It would be foolish not to do the hydraulics. Also to do it right you should check the balance of your old flywheel, pp, and disc, and make sure the new set up is balanced similarly.

If you have a local guy that rebuilds Tremecs he certainly should have no problem with the hydraulics.

If your car is a pre-2001 yes you need to upgrade the hydraulics. We normally charge $300-350 for the clutch/fw install + $150 for hydraulics. So expect to pay around $500 for everything.

Yes you do. You however do not need an adjustabble master. Just get the 01+ master and slave and you should be set. And bigdsz our cars have the borg warner

Spec 3 is a way to go if you want a lot of bang for your buck. You did good with all those miles on your stocker.

BTW, as far as updating your hydraulics, you ONLY NEED to update the slave unless your master is shot to hell because of the aging.

I believe the "T" in T-56 stands for Tremec. At 57 I may be getting a little senile but if my memory serves me correctly Borg Warner sold out to Tremec a few years ago. Although it could be the other way around.

Shoot sorry to hear the tranny went out on the highway, but your getting a new clutch, and all is well. Its about time I change my clutch. I haven't touched it since I bought it when it had 50,000 miles on it, now it has 130,000. The tranny is getting pulled to have it rebiuld. I putting in a ram clutch.
