Question 2 Tranys blown for no reason????

Ok, i bought a trany from a well known T56 trany builder. (It's supposed to be one of the best built tranys). The first one goes at about 3500 miles. Just starts getting stuck in 3rd and 4rth gear then doesn't want to come out. Finally comes out and just grinds in 3rd and 4rth gear at all times. The two gears are useless. The second one is the same trany just rebuilt. It does the EXACT same thing but within 800 miles (2 weeks). The first trany wasn't beaten but wasn't babied. I drove the car well no gears were missed. The second one never saw over 4000 rpm, never banged a gear and never launched the car. I was driving it like an old lady. WTF both times were brand new clutches. 1st spec stage 3 2nd spec stage 4 I WILL SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME OUT. LET ME KNOW WHAT IS WRONG SO IT CAN BE FIXED. Any idea what it could be? I will talk to the rebuilder monday and tell him i want a completely diffrent trany shipped to me and i will swap them. This is my only car and cannot alow down time like the last 3 weeks it took for him to rebuild it.

Well, getting stuck in 4th is a classic problem of overextension of the shift. The slider keys pop out, then you have to break them to get it back out of 4th.

Since this has happened twice to the same trans, there are some pieces that deserve investigating:

1) The shift selector plate - make sure it's not worn
2) The shift selector guide (on the shifter rail) - ditto
3) I'd put solid (billet) keys in that slider... I understand you can get them from GForce Transmissions for $55 a set. Any trannies I build from here on out will have them
4) Replace the 3-4 shift fork - it could be tweaked

The whole trans isn't 'bad', but those parts above could be. That's under $200 in parts above.

And yet another reason to learn how to build your own T56... it's not that bad, takes only an afternoon to go through it once you're used to it, and can save you a ton of money in the long run.

Thanks, the trany was supposed to have all of those upgrades and more in it already. And it was just rebuilt by someone who is supposed to be really good with T56s and is well known on LS1 boards. anything else in there that can be doing it? That he might not have noticed? the car shifted perfect untill that happend. With no warning just got stuck then no more 3rd or 4rth gear.
