Unhappy Second T-56 blown

well my second T-56 has let go. With less than 15 Passes and 3,000 miles its locked in 3rd same as last time. Sicne I didn't really get to enjoy it at the track as much as i wanted i think instead of rebuilding it again i'll be going w/ a TH-400 swap here this fall. I dont see how some people go out each weekend and race their car and have no problems. I have the Stops set on the Pro 5.0 shifter unlike last time when it went and the RAM clutch was working flawlessly.

give mikey a call, me and Sue have been working on issues with our m6's and we think we have solved them, mine will be at the track next weekend to give it the ultimate test. 615 rwtq.

The part that is breaking is your slider keys. When they break they sometimes get jammed and mess up the blocker rings. If you order a set of billet slider keys and new blocker rings and go with the steel 3-4 shift fork since it's apart , you should be ok for a long while. If you dont want to give that a try I'd be interested in buying your tranny so I can build it up and have a spare. The slider keys are what causes the t56 to have problems. You should also get a pro 5.0 shifter if you dont have one already. The slider keys break from over extended shifts, at least thats what they tell me,I think the slider keys are **** cause I have a pro 5.0 shifter with the shifter stops and I still broke em.Switching to auto will cost you way more than fixing your trans.Dont give up on the t56

You can order all the stuff you need from G-force transmissions in PA.They will hook you up with what you need.My car has been raced since it had 845 miles on it.Since then it has been a trailer queen ,track only ,has less than 1500 miles on it and my tranny went, havent been back to the track yet, almost done with a ton of changes.I should be hittin 10's all engine and who knows with 150 shot

yeah G-force is right up the road from me but i got all the stuff i could upgrade from D&D for this rebuild its just the 3-4 slider keys that went again i'm assuming. I saw they have a rebuild kit kinda pricy but if it holds and you race alot then i guess its worth it. I'm still leaning more towards the TH400 for more consistency and the level i want to get the car to in the future.

Hi JR.
If you like the M6 (T56) then go with a Viper T56 transmission - it built to handle the HP of of the V10 550+ HP. Very thing I have read about it says it built to handle the power and has large shafts, gears, etc.

Shot in the dark...how tight is your driveshaft...did you have to pull off the endcaps to slide it in the rear yoke?

Mine was too long for a while and I tore up 2 trannies (locked in 4th) in short order (within 2 weeks). After fixing the driveshaft, it worked flawlessly since

no it goes right in and dont have to remove the end caps. slid it in the trans far as it goes then it goes rigth into the rear yoke. i say it probly has about 1/2" of free space to move it around to fit.

I've had mie rebuilt under warrenty 3 times. First it was 3-4 then 5-6 then two weeks later 3-4 again. Since then I did the drill mod and have been fine. No more miss shifts, and no more grinding. Very smooth. If it goes again, I'm going to auto till I can get a pro-built T-56.
My $.02.

That is correct, but they are breaking because the slider hub & gear is worn out. The keys are going too far, so when the gear goes back, it breaks the keys. The rebuilder is not replacing the gear, so it WILL continue to break keys, unless the slider hub & gear are replaced. The part is only about $100. Hope this helps.

you can try:
G-force transmissions in PA
and D&D Performance
not sure there prices but they both have websites and the G-Force was in National Dragster about a month ago with a big write-up about this tranny. I personally with continue to fix mine until they can make a GUARANTEE that they can handle that amount of HP. Why would i buy just cause they say that it can handle it? My luck it would blow within a few passes and I'm back where I started..LOL It is costing me about $800 to rebuild this tranny. everytime it breaks. I have now upgraded all the forlks to steel, changed the blocker rings and put new syncro's in it, so we'll see what happens..

There are 4 slider/hub assemblies for 1-2, 3-4, 5-6, and Reverse. The only thing I can think of is either they didn't replace the right one :dunno:
