Default Which Flywheel

Im about to order a SPEC Stage 3 Clutch. I know I want a Steel Flywheel, I just don't know WHICH one. I was thinking...

Ram Steel Flywheel
Spec Steel Flywheel
AMS Flywheel (from that auction site)

Does it really make a difference? Should I just get a SPEC to have them match?

Thanks!!!

I would recommend the Fidanza Aluminum flywheel. Is there a reason why you want another steel flywheel? The Fidanza weighs about half of the stock flywheel.

I want Steel because I got to the track fairly often and I don't think it would hold up to the abuse as wheel as a Steel Flywheel.

I hate to be the bearer of bad tidings but the "steel" as in "steel" flywheels is not "steel", this includes SPEC, it is nodular iron. Nodular iron is quite a strong metal, however it is not "steel".

The AMS flywheel is steel, or at least the one I purchased is.

I'd go with a steel flywheel for the extra oomph on launch with the higher inertia of the heavier flywheel, especially if you plan on getting a stronger rear and using slicks. I'd probably go with the spec.. because I doubt spec is gonna want to stand behind their product when used with other manufacturers flywheels. You never know what might happen.

Good Luck,
Josh

Distortion is right, the only time you want to use the aluminium is when you are track racing and are keeping consistantly high RPM's. SPEC's "steel" nodular iron flywheel is manufactured by the same company that manufactures GM's OEM flywheels. It is also made to GM's specs.

I agree with distortion. And from what I have heard, the m6 dosnt really like the aluminum flywheel to much. I mean yeah it will work, but apparently you get better launches and life from the steel.

I bought the AMS flywheel. A little lighter than stock, but not too light for the track IMO. Finish was great, they shipped next day for $105 w/o shipping. I bought a Spec 3 and this flywheel, the combination got me .3 sec at the track.

I thought the whole idea behind the steel vs aluminum thing was...

The steel isn't as easy to get turning as the aluminum - thus - the aluminum flywheel allows the car to rev quicker. The heavier steel flywheel would seem to take up a bit more power on the launch as it's taking more power to get it to turn than the ligher aluminum flywheel.

The steel flywheel, while being heavier, has more momentum once it gets spinning, so at higher rpms, it takes less power to keep the flywheel spinning, whereas the aluminum one is lighter, so more power is needed to keep it spinning.

following my theory?
