Likely = bad. The trans took a hard beating after that short trip. Does it feel & sound OK now filled up? At the very least you got some bearing wear out of that.

o man i know i know iam worry about those damn needle bearings. well i put some dextron 2 or dexon 2 or what ever is called in this morning and it is runing just fine. however last night when driving i did get this loud whirling sound when ever i putthe car in gear, it whent away after a while but it was concerning.
It sounded like, you know those older bmw's or older cars when you put them in reverse how the gear box makes this huming whirling sound? well it sounded just like that but a little more high pitch.

Not a bad idea at all, if you're wanting to buy a new high HP rated tranny, and the wife keeps telling you no. New tranny is cheaper than a new car, and if I'm going to be buying one anyway, may as well spend the extra $500 bucks, and get one that will last forever. ....

That's right on the money...

lets see a show of hands...how many of us have intentionally destroyed something to replace it with something better? *raises hand

Worst that could happen is you spin the teeth right off the gear, and find yourself having to limp the car home with only 4th gear to get you up pretty good sized hills...

Not that I would know anything about that, of course. It's not like I bought a car and had that happen to me on the highway back home or anything...

There's also large taper roller bearings in there. They bear the load of power thru the trans. Only time will tell if the damage was extensive. I would change it again & see if the fluid you just dropped out is all full of metal.

my buddy forgot to replace his oil filter once, and drove around the block and blew out all his oil. haha. and in my 72 chevy SWB while doing a header swap i forgot to put my dipstick back in and drove for 15min home on the highway. i thought i smelt a little burning oil on the road, but when i got into the neighbor hood at slow speeds, the smoke was billowing. most of us have those dumbass moments.
