Yeah, sometimes those snap rings can be a major pain in the ****.

Sometimes I go after them with a little hammer/chisel work... just to knock them loose. I have a nice set of SnapOn transmission snap ring pliers that were made for those rings, though... If you're using cheap snap ring pliers, umm, good luck. Been there, done that, threw the freakin' things in the trash.

If you do decide to try to knock them loose with a tap of the hammer, be forewarned... you could damage your mainshaft. I had a stuck snap ring... I tapped it... it moved... but it took a part of the mainshaft with it (small chunk of the surface where a roller bearing rides). Oops. A $200 mainshaft later, and it was back in my car.

Those snap-on snap ring pliers are the trick. Those things work great. Not to cheap though.

ok got that ring off yesterday no problem but now my next one is how can i draw that 5-6 gear off the main shaft? i got a 3 jaw puller that i made extended arms for but i cant get the thing to start pulling off the main shaft. its on there pretty good. will i need to buy that special gear puller for this one or is there something i'm missing here?

Edit: i got the gear off just took a little more than i thought.
