Whining in 5th and 6th gear....
I have a '98 Trans am and I was wondering if anyone knows what is causing the whining I hear when I am in 5th and 6th gear.....i never hear it in any other gear.....when i step on the gas in one of these gears it whines (sounds like it could be the fuel pump)...whenever I step off the gas the whining stops. Any know what's up?

mine does it too dude... i have a 2000ss I've got a 3i going in soon. I'll let you know if that takes care of it... are you sure its not coming from the rear? have you had any gear work done? I've got 3.73's and I'm wondering if its not just a shitty gear install

The Whining your are hearing is probably the rear end. When you load up the rear end in 5th and 6th gear (on the gas) it will/may whine a bit. When you let off the gas the rear end no longer has any load on it. My stock rear would whine just noticably in 5th and 6th gear, but not like the 12-bolt.
