Ahh the notchy shift feeling. I put some B&M Synthetic trick shift tranny fluid in when I put my spec stgIII in. It improved this dramaticly. I had the stock Hurst shifter with a jarrods short stick and just replaced it with a Kirban shifter and its even better now.
I did the same to a friend of mines car with the same results. Except he went with the Pro 5.0

Hope this helps

I have a 2000 with LOW miles. Same bump, but also have a bump at redlights going back to first. Why does my drivetrain clank every so often. I really need answers. Maybe the clutch is faulty, or I need to give the tranny hell to break it in at just 16k. Anyone??????

Mine is a low mile 2000 and it has the same damn bump into second gear. No grinding just a bump. It sucks cause a new t56 is not on my mod list.

Have any of you tried a different shifter? The stock hurst is very Notchy. Or "bumpy".

2000 T/A here with 32k miles and and a Pro 5.0 and bumps between gears also. No grinding, just notchy and always has been. A different shifter isn't going to cure it because it's these damn t-56's that causing it. Brad....did the B&M Trick Shift really work that well and how bad is that stuff for the paper lined synchros in the long term? Or did it get better because of the new clutch?

The clutch helps th shifting but it is not the cause of the bump. A good clutch will make shifts at higher RPM easier. As for hurting the paper lined syncros, I have not been inside the tranny. Mine is a 2000 so it may have the carbon syncros already. FWIW I have put 10k miles on it and many passes at the track and no problems yet.

Afternmarket shifters that tout short throw will INCREASE the feel/ bump/ notch in the shift. This is due to 1) reduced/ eliminated isolation 2) with a shorter throw, there is more effort/ work required to shift.

I think that's my main problem. Normal driving, the shifting is fairly smooth. It got much better after putting in fresh ATF and bleeding the hell out the master. The higher the rpm though, the notchier the shifts become. A new clutch is not far down the road I guess. I think I will put the stock Pro stick back on this weekend and see how it feels compared to Lou's.
