Default Pro 5.0 Urgent please read

Ok I put in my Pro 5.0 yesterday and I can hardly ever get it to shift to 2nd, it will grind and kick it out of gear. Does anyone else have this problem? And if so did you use the stopper bolts? Maybe the rattle loose and are too tight, 2nd is the only gear that has a problem, the rest is smooth as glass.

Also what kind of noises should I be hearing? I think everything is ok after driving it today, but its kinda loud which is fine as long as thats the way it is supposed to be.

Please if anyone has any information, I searched and posted in the new enthusiast forum to 1 reply, I guess here is the better place for it to go... should I take the boot back off and remove to stopper bolts??? Or any other fix...

THANKS!

The stop bolts are not letting you into 2nd gear . Remove both stop bolts . The T-56 transmission does not need them !

Is there a way to get to the stopper bolts without taking off the stupid #6 boot again.... I dont have the tools to do it, so I guess if I have to do that I have to wait till I go back to my friends house and skip 2nd until then.......

It would be easier in the long run to remove the big boot. You might be able to not remove the boot and just pry the rubber down far enough to get the bolts out, but you might not be able to get it back up over the shifter ring.

Yeah, I already snipped it enough, when I get off work tonight I guess I'm taking the center console back out and the boot, maybe since i've already done it once now it won't take but about 45 minutes

Where ever you got that info, its wrong. While the T-56 has its own internals, they're weak. There are more then a few guys on this board who have shifted hard and snapped the internals to peices, and blown their tranny/parts of it. There's a reason the 5.0 has it on there....if you do any hard shifting, adjust them, don't remove them. Thats why they are ADJUSTABLE.

I went to B&M website and on their pdf file about the ripper, they suggest not even using them either.

"STOP SCREWS
After extensive testing with various race
teams, as well as continuing development
with the original transmission Engineering
group, B&M Racing and Performance
Products has determined that
the “shift stop” feature is redundant on
the T-Series of Borg-Warner (Tremec)
transmissions. Because of this, B&M is
phasing out the use of shift stops. If you
feel that your style of driving requires the
use of shift stops, install the supplied
threaded stops and nuts and adjust exactly
as described or internal transmission
damage could occur!"

the above is an excerpt from www.bmracing.com (last visited 09/11/04.

Yeah, Lucian I agree, unless you are resting your arm on the handle; I doubt you will ever "over shift" the transmission. If folks have broken their T56 during a shift like cyphur-traq said, they had other issues with weak internals. The shift stops are not designed to help weak internals. They stop "over-shifting" the transmission, that is, forcing the shift forks beyond their engagement point. If you shift into gear and stop pushing, so matter how hard you slammed the stick, you will not hurt anything. If you have to force the shifter in place and hold it there with effort; your SHIFT STOPS are too tight.

Thank you all so much! I didn't remove them just screwed them as far in as they would go, it didn't take but about 30 minutes since I had already did it once. Everything works perfectly! And as for the sound, it was late and somehow the lower layer of carpet on the left side of the #6 boot was actually under the screws, so now its back to the metal and decently quiet again

i love mine, i had to futz with it a few times before i was happy but with the car off set the bolts firmly against the shifter in 1st and 2nd gear, then back them both out 1 full turn away from the shifter arm.
as far as noise goes, yes its very noisy, but its strong, if you like that riggidy feeling like me you would buy a solid trans mount.

it's a little louder than stock cause it doesn't have that rubber pieced on the bottom to absorb vibration and give you that wonderful spoon in oatmeal shift feeling.

That is the best way I have heard it described

I ended up following the advice from pro 5.0, I adjusted the stops to just past the end of positive engagement then Locktighted them in place. I had thes stop vibrate loose on me without locktight. No problems after the correct adjustment and locktight.
