Default Question about transmission ratios

How do the numbers work? Let me explain what I mean:

Ok, with rear end gears, the greater the number, the greater the acceleration(IE 3.73 will accelerate faster than 2.73)... Is it the same way with transmission ratios? Ive always thought Its the opposite with trans gears, and rear end gears...

Thanks

Nope it's the same. It's a ratio.

If first Gear is a 2.73 ratio the engine turns 2.73 times for every 1 turn of the transmission output shaft. Then since 6th gear is .50 then the engine turns 1/2 turn for every rotation of the transmission output shaft (hence it's overdrive)

With the rear gears 3.73 gears means that the drive shaft turns 3.73 times for every 1 revolution of the wheel.

Hope that helps.
