I made sure to clean the pressure plate, flywheel, and clutch disc with brake cleaner. I used nearly two cans on those parts alone.

I have a spec stage III and mine slips every once and a while when I go for a 4th gear scratch, but other than that I havent had any problems. I was to have to replace it I would go with the mcloed street twin. I've heard nothing but good things about those.

I'm starting to get the highway gear slip.
Is there a shudder also when it slips for you guys?
Spec III went on last February- I'm kinda pissed if I'm only gonna get less than a year out of it.

Wow...all these horror stories about the stage 3 are making me cringe. I wanted to get one but now it I really don't. How does z06 clutch compare to the stage 3? I'm guessing it's not as strong? Perhaps it will be more streetable and will accept traffic driving better?

edit:

I've sent a letter to SPEC, perhaps they could shed some light on the issue.

I want to thank all of you guys for turning me away from the Spec 3 when I was looking for a clutch last February.
The price of the Spec clutches is great. But with all these horror stories of them going out so soon, that damn chatter, and not to mention the having to accomodate your driving to your clutch, I decided against it.
I now have 11000 miles on my clutchmasters clutch.
I paid double the price of the Spec 3, but it was money well spent.
By this time I would have probably been on my second Spec clutch anyway.
My clutch drives just like stock, I can slip it all I want and damn does this sucker grab.
Also, it never chattered. Even when it was brand new.
It is rated at 700 hp, that's flywheel I think. That's more than I will need, at least for a while.
All in all, I am completely satisfied with my clutch choice.
I couldn't be happier, and it's all thanks to you guys

Well, my spec stage 3 never slipped on me.... 3 k miles on it and well... 50-60 track passes on it...

But I never dumped over 2.5k (10 bolt saving...) so I'll see next year what she can do with 5-6k dumps...

I just pulled out my SPEC stage 3 X pad setup last Saturday.

Unlike the last stage III, where the friction disk had worn down into the rivets, this time I had friction material left.

This time around the friction disk ate deep into the (new) SPEC billet flywheel causing slippage. I should have taken a pic before I had the flywheel turned.

Damn, I guess I've gotten really lucky with my stage III ceramic. I installed it along with a billet flywheel 15,000 miles ago. All of those miles have been with a high HP H/C package. I've just recently added the 12 bolt, chromoly DS, and slicks. So far it has given me several 1.6x 60ft times without a single problem. I plan on really hammering on the bitch at the thunder shootout this coming weekend.

I'm just wondering if the ones that are slipping is due to being shimmed wrong, and they are not fully engaged when the clutch pedal is released fully? I didn't shim mine and it grabs right on the floor, it seems like most people like for them to grab at the top... it could be that they aren't fully "clamped" ??

I got 15k out of my ceramic setup, prior to the X pad. Both had a mid-high pedal.
I suppose it could have been related to my setup of the X-pad clutch. I installed both as instructed though.

Interesting point.

My new 3 grabs low too, and I was complaining.

Maybe not such a bad thing? From what I am now gathering, new clutches grab low, older clutches grab high?

That would be my case anyway...

I'm about to yank my SPEC 3 that took a dump after less then a month... They are gonna rebuild it with a different setup. If this one goes, I'm going with a different brand for sure!
