Question Tranny and rear end slack

I was adjusting the pinion angle today and had the drive shaft disconnected from the rear end and noticed I could rotate the driveshaft a good 3/8" in either direction while it was still in the tranny and in gear. I did the same thing to the pinion yoke and the rear end had about the rotational play back and forth. No wonder I hear and feel all sorts of noises rowing through the gears. Anybody know if that's normal slack in these cars or is that a bit to much play?

Just seemed like a lot of play to me. It's hard for me to tell the difference between slack and slop I guess.
