Default Clutch install pointers

I have searched and read some install pages but does anyone have any pointers that I should know before starting my install of my Spec 3?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

The best thing you can have is a lift.
A friend helping that has done it before.
A tranny jack
A universal 13mm socket that makes getting to the bell housing bolts easy.

After you get the flywheel on and are ready to put the clutch disk and PP on clean all of the contact, friction surfaces with brake cleaner and dont touch the surfaces with your fingers after that. This will extend clutch life and performance.

You will want to clean both sides of the clutch disk and the flywheel and pressure plate surfaces.spray the brake cleaner on them then wipe them down with a clean rag.wait till you see all the stuff and oils that comes off of them.

You have to lift both sides together, theres no way around it. it would be impossible to only lift one side and hold a 130Lbs tranny sideways to and match the splines up. its almost impossible to do without a tranny jack. or at least its a huge pain. A boxed end ratcheting 10 mm wrenches will help a lot when you have to disconnect the slave too. You have to do that before the trans is slide all the way out.

I've never ever sprayed the clutch disc with anything. I'm afraid that the chemicals might actually cause some problems with the organic materials. Wheither or not that's true though is something I don't know about. I've always just sprayed the flywheel and pressure plate with Brakleen and wiped them off really well.

Another thing that you will need is a very long extension - about 18-24 inches - for the top bell housing bolts. A clutch swap is relatively simple if you have the right parts, tools, and friends.

Good deal, the clutch disk is what I was wondering about. I am kind of scared to spray anything on it.

I've never ever sprayed any clutch discs - wheither it be on the Camaro, or a Mustang, or whatever. If others have done it with no problems, then fine, but I won't ever spray them.

The only thing you can use on the disk is the break clean its just like a brake pad it wont hurt a thing.no harsh chemicals in it to do anything. You cant use anything else, like paint thinners, degreasers or anything because of the harsh chemicals and the residues left behind. If you dont overhandle the disk and dont spill or get anything on it then do not clean it at all.But if your worried its dirty a little brake clean wont hurt a thing.I just installed one doing this and it works perfectly.

I'd be more worried about the long term effects (if any).

I'd say do whatever you feel more comfortable with. Good luck with the install.
