Default clutch release spring, AGAIN!

unfortunatly this is the 2nd time my clutch release spring has snaped off in the past 6 months . it never snaps when i mash on the clutch power shifting, its always when im just doing stop light traffic. i dont abuse my car, i drive her very politly on the road. does this happen to anyone else or is my clutch just really sensative? any ideas or suggestions to keep this from happening again? i bought my previous clutch release spring at a pontiac dealership and iwas told this happened alot on the earlier years but was fixed. the part he sold me was suppose to be a newer and stronger one. well 6 months later... any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Damn, never seen that. Did it "snap" off as in break or just pop off?

Ok first of all when you say "I don't abuse my car" and "it didn't do it while powershifting" that is just funny

On a more serious note -- don't even bother putting that POS back on. I had mine replaced once while my car was at the dealer for something else and it broke as I was pulling out of the parking lot. Haha. Didn't ever bother to put another one back on and its been 2 years now with no problems.

Damn, never seen that. The only thing I can think of is to fab up a bracket of somekind to bring it out further. Basically find a way to make the spring not stretch so far. It should still have plenty of force to bring the pedal back up. Just don't shorten the length too much. Good Luck!!

i just relized how funny my statement was. i just wanted to let everyone know that it didnt break b/c i was mashing hard on the clutch. i was being gentle at that time. Classic-you have had yours off for 2 years and no problems. i just cant get use to the spoungey feel, thats why i had mine replaced before. also the release spring is like $30. i hate to pay that again if its going to break again.a new part must be created. thanks for the reply Classic and if u dont mind me asking, why are you about to push your hawk into a big body of water.

Haha -- yeah I just found it funny that those two statements were back to back
Yes, I have had mine off for 2 years now. Honestly, it literally broke as I was making my left turn out of the dealership! What a POS. Never had any problems without it on there.

As for my car -- its one of those working on the car way to much and not having anything to show for it kind of things. Had a H/C setup, sold that, bought a twin turbo setup, had it on the car, never got to run it before having to tear it all down again.

alright, thats good to hear that you havent had any problems with the clutch. i still think that there should be something that GM would have created that would not sorry to hear about you having to tear down your motor. good luck with the outcome

well, im glad that im hearing that there are no potential problems with a broken spring. guess i will just have to eventually get use to the new feeling, since i dont feel like paying $30 every 6-8 months. from what ive been hearing recently, it sounds like it only happens on the Ls1 f-bodies. thanks for all the replies.
