M6 Not Going Into Reverse

Default M6 Not Going Into Reverse

Anybody Ever Have The Problem Of Getting Into Reverse.. I Have 99 Z28 M6 And For Some Reason..i Have Been Having A Hard Time...especially In The Morning??..and Yes Of Course I Put It In 1st First..i Never Had This Problem B4...it Seems Like Its Just Blocked For A While And Then All Of The Sudden It Will Go In Gear...any Ideas???

I had the same friggin problem. Come to find out. Reverse has a syncro in it. that is the problem

so how did you fix it?

I've got a similar problem, it's tough to go into reverse, then pops out once I'm moving.

I had warrenty left, And they replaced it as well as the shift fork and such.

I had a similar situation last summer with my '99 Formula. It was the reverse Lock-out solenoid. When the car is rolling fwd over 5km (i'm cdn) it's engaged to prevent accidental reverse selection. When the solenoid fails, it fails closed for safety. I think it cost $80 or so cdn (it was awhile ago) so must be around 50 bones in the states.

I think what he was saying is very likely...Although a trick that i've heard that works from expierence with some of my other cars...is 1) put it in 2nd gear...2)Then shift straight into reverse....Should* help out! let me know how it goes!

While I agree fully with what Veri has described as a way to ease the work on a tiered synchronizer , a failed solenoid is easy to detect. If you actually get into the reverse gate( side ways motion all the way to the passenger side) and the hard shift is just the up / reverse motion = your problem is the synchronizer. If, however, the load sideways into the gate is what is the issue= that indicates a bad solenoid. Hope that helps.

my master cylinder went out, it gave me problems getting into reverse, but i had problems in 1st,2nd,3rd,4th also.

yeah check...synchro and solenoid...if everything's good there i don't know what to tell you...i doubt it would be something with the hydrolics..

I have the same problem, but it only happens occasionally. I will get in my car and I have to sit and mess with it for a few seconds to get it to go into reverse. It goes all the way over, but it won't go up.

How would you know for sure that it is the syncro? I have a 2002 car but I'm not sure if it is still under warranty. How much approximately would it be to have this fixed if it wasn't under warranty?

My 2000 SS M6 is doing the same thing. It pops out of reverse every once and a while. What is the warranty on these transmissions?
