i was wondering about the stop bolts that come with it. On LS1HOWTO.COM they wrote that if they had the chance they would have taken them off. but what exactly are they for. i am guessing its so you don't run the shifter all the way or something? and how do you set them so they work how they are supposed to if you decided to use them?
oh ok just making sure i new they were there for a reason, but noticed a few people saying to take them out so i was like damn i don't want to take them out and then lose my transmission. but ok thanks for the help.
not sure what you mean...if you're asking how's the shifting at WOT, well, you feel more confident that it will go into the right gear, that's for sure!
have any of you guys had a problem with your pro 5.0 rattling at wot? Or just a rattle that increases with revs?
Mine rattled in 2nd gear during WOT. When I got my cam installed it was noticed that my stock tranny mount was shot. Replaced it with the poly mount and the rattle is gone. So it could be that your tranny mount is going south.
Just take them out. The T-56 comes with internal stops. Those stop bolts were designed for tranny's that don't have the internal stops.
Are you sure that 4th has a stop? I'm not saying that I know your wrong(because I don't), but, my tranny got stuck in 4th last week. I got it to come out of 4th then was locked out of 5th&6th. It goes in all gears now, but from what I understand, what happened was that 4th does NOT have a stop, and after many hard shifts the tranny case gets wallowed out a bit and allows 4th to travel too far and cause the slider keys to pop out and block the shifter from coming out of 4th. Then when I forced it out it actually broke the keys, which then lodged in my 5/6 synchro.
Again, I'm no expert(or even close) just trying to understand what happened, and how to avoid it happening again and was told I NEED to use stops.
Sounds like you are experiencing the craptastic build quality of some of the T-56's. I went through three trannies, in less than 12,000 miles, before they got it right. Been on the same one now for almost 20,000 miles with no problems.
Never heard of fourth not having a stop. Why would they put stops in the other gears and not fourth? Just doesn't make sense. All I know is that the T-56 has internal stops and the stop bolts are not needed.
I use the stops. Put the trans in 3rd and then seat the stop bolt until it touches. Then back the bolt out 1/2 turn and lock. Do the same in 4th. Cheap insurance in my mind. Better to have 2 stops than just one.
