dug, it is amazing that these cars gets the mileage that they do.

I still think a 5 speed transmission would be better.
with a 6 speed you can have closer 1-5 gear ratios and still get good mileage (6th).

plus they are a helluva lot stronger than the mustang style 5 speeds.

corvette, f-body, viper, 03/04 cobras, they are the fastest cars around, they all have t56's, any questions?

With 3.42s it's a little high, with 3.73s or 4.10s it becomes a very useful gear!

What I don't understand is why you're complaining about the 6th gear, and saying that a 5 speed would be better.... How about just not use 6th gear, and pretend it's a 5 speed??? Makes sense to me. Like the other guy said: whether you use 6th gear or not, it's nice to have the option. And who would argue about great MPG in a fast car? Fast car + great MPG = best of both worlds.

What kind of gas mileage do you get with the 4.10's? What RPMS are you turning at Freeway (60-65MPH) speeds?

Well I get any where from 17 to 20 miles to a tank with city driving. I do not spend much time on the Highway at all. If I am on the highway I am only on it for about 10 miles there and back and I do that 2 to 3 times a week. I have no clue what rpm I am at at 60 or 65mph. At 70 mph I am at 1900 to 2000 rpm and at 80 I am at 2300 to 2400. When I break the 4.10 gears I am going with 4.30. I love gears.

I appreciate the feedback fellas!

Unfortunately, I don't really see a reason to use my 6th gear, unless I move to Germany , but I'm glad to hear so many others are using their 6th gear.

Anyway, thanks again!

I really dont see a reason you are complaining about having double over drive......... i guess down the road when you really start modding your car for BIG HP you will see that it is nice to be able to make alot of HP and get good milage.......20+........... A4's suck..... esp. with with more cubes bigger cams and biger rear gears...... 8 mpg here in my old A4........ its nice making alot of HP and having double overdrive......... it helps with these raising gas prices to keep our spending down on gas..... i guess thats just me though....

Na$ty, I'm not complaining, I'm observing.

I think if your car was making this very tiring drone and resonance in sixth gear, you'd probably give up the 3 or 4 mpg for a little peace and quiet. I guess I could change my exhaust system, but I really like the Loudmouth, except for 6th gear.

Not using 6th gear is my solution, but wouldn't the gear ratios be different if a 5 speed was used instead?

Anyway my next mod is a stronger rear end, and probably 4.10s, so maybe the 6 speed will work-out afterall.

Thanks!

Kyle,

Believe it or not, I sometimes wish my Loudmouth was louder, but cruising in 6th gear is not one of those times. If I'm on the highway cruising like that, I'm not joyriding but rather trying to reach a destination. All the droning and resonance in 6th is because the rpms are so low. The cam has definitely made the car louder though. If there's not a problem just leaving it in 5th, then I'll continue to do that. As I mentioned, once I get a new 12 bolt and some 4.10s I should be all set.

Anyway, thanks for the feedback!

I have 4.11 and Loudmouth and it's not too loud in my car in 6th (2000 rpm).

BTW, has anyone tested to findout how much HP is gained by removing LS1 CATS?

That's good to hear about the 4.11s and the LM.

I think it's a good for a few hp on each side (cat removal). I've been thinking about doing that, too, since my state changed over to OBDII scanning.

I love having a 6th gear for cruising and getting kickass MPG.

MN12 is the code for the ZO6 / GTO specific T56 that has shorter gears, steel shift forks and the carbon/kevlar synchros
