Default Z06 T56 to 98 Z28

My 98 Z28 T56 is having trouble shifting, and has lost reversed gear. I can get ahold of a T56 out of a 02 Z06. Are these two trans interchangable. If not what do I have to do to swap them.

Straight up swap. The gears are just going to be shorter.

I thought by using the F-Body bell housing they would swap right out?

A Corvette uses a trans axle. It is in the rear of the car.
