Should I toss it????

Default Should I toss it????

I just took out my flywheel cause my clutch went out. It's not only burnt but there's like a ledge at the edge of the circle where the clutch grabs. The clutch plates were almost to the rivets if they went touching them already. This flywheel is only 15k old. Can I still resurface? Should I?

If it is minor, why not resurface it? If the lip is pretty big, buy a new one.

I resurfaced and neutral balanced the Z06 flywheel when I put my Ram clutch in and had no clutch problems with it. What flywheel do you have? Was it purchased with a clutch and balanced to the clutch? If so you need to resurface and either balance it seperately, (which I did with my Ram), or balance it with the new clutch. OEM flywheels are balanced with the clutch and should be rebalanced when mated to another clutch. Aftermarket flywheels that are purchased seperately are balanced by themself. There are aftermarket packaged clutch and flywheels that are balanced together and would need to be rebalanced. People have ignored the rebalancing and had no problem but it can bite you.

NO I have a stcok flywheel. It's only 15k old. I took the flywheel down to the machine shop yesterday and he said he could resurface it and that I didn't need a shim for it. I asked him to balance it with the clutch and he said he would but just the pressure plate to the flywheel. He said he didn't need the clutch plates itself. Does that sound right? He's a reputable and popular machinist.

The disc will never ben indexed to the flywheel in one particular position. How would you balance something together that is going to change relation in degrees every time you use the clutch?
