Mods in Sig did this with less than 10k on the clock Probably about 8k. You guys think they will warranty it ??!! Oh and for those that don't know that peice in the middle is supposed to be connected to the clutch disc and this was the VDS setup for those wondering that as well.

Any thoughts/comments.

I have the same clutch in my '69. Of course, I don't have as much power either. How did you manage to explode it?

I'm replacing with a Spec V, to be honest I'm not sure how it exploded like that but it happened while in 2nd gear at WOT, I had just switched from 1st and got about 2 secs worth of 2nd gear and then I heard a pop, the pics above turned out to be the pop. I had noticed a few days beforehand that the clutch was not engaging/disengaging correctly so maybe there was some flaw that was compounding over time. Hard to say.

The clutch did hold pretty good up until the end though so I have to give it some credit. What is also funny is that the flywheel had those 3 scarring marks like the pressure plate but on the back of the flywheel you can see where it had turned a blue color so I'm guessing alot of heat was being transferred there. Also where it is blueish on the pressure plate you can literally feel a groove by the touch so the clutch was really digging into it at some point.

Hopefully the Spec V ends up lasting a little longer, this will be my 4th clutch including the stocker that I have gone through

hehe........looks familiar. I did the exact same thing to a stock clutch on a 2-3 shift. Sheared the clutch hub at all 4 corners. See in the center of your disc, the round piece that looks like a donut, yet is still attached, barely, well, I sheared mine completely off. Not good. That's when I put the RAM 402/6130 set-up in, and never looked back.

Wow, that's some pretty good carnage... but it looks like it was a manageable failure. As in, nothing else got damaged. No flywheel explosion, no chunks busting out of the bellhousing. That's at least a 'positive', I suppose. I'd much rather have a failure like that than a true clutch explosion - that could take out your legs.

That's the way my stocker looked. It had only three small places on the flywheel and pressure plate were it was actually holding/wearing. The rest of it still had the factory machine marks on it at 26,000miles. No wonder my stock one gave up. I hope my Spec III will hold with this new stroker for a while

My RAM 980 pressure plate had a pretty deep groove in it when it came out after <1000 miles when it started severely slipping. The organic side of the disk looked great but the iron pucks on the pressure plate side were worn down to nothing and there was a ~.030" groove eaten into the pressure plate surface. When they warrantied it they said they had never seen something like that before. Got some pics @ home.

My sprung hub did not explode though.

The clutch felt great while it was in. After one hard run on the street (no N2O) I smelled a lot of clutch although it did not feel like it slipped. Soon after that it started slipping on the highway and was soon almost not drivable. The estimation was that the pressure plate had been bent during shipping due to incorrectly packaging it from the vendor I bought it from.

Mike is installing what I call the metal pig. The squealing is annoying as hell, but it decreases in time.

Yes I did get lucky there only the clutch/pp appear to be damaged, I think event he flywheel can be re-used with a nice resurface.
