Angry Z06 3rd gear

hey I've got an 02 Z06 with about 3000 miles on it. I just got it used it had about 2200 miles on it never had a problem out of it and I have never missed a gear in it. i ran an 04 cobra last night... did fine went to turn around and on my way back when shifting in to 3rd it started grinding. so i'm pretty sure the syncros are shot in 3rd gear but i'll find out when i get to work monday(work at a dealer...also still under gmpp warrenty). alright so my question is has anyone else had any problems. i mean mine is all stock right now and i am going to start doing mods. if these trans. are that weak i need to start upgrading it first. i hada Z-28 before this. i broke many rear ends---4.10 gears but never had a problem with the trans. i know this car had 2200 miles of someone else driving it but I met the guy and he just doesn't seem like the type that would be racing it.also i have heard these had internal stops.. not sure anyone here have insight on that. if they do then i shouldn't be concerned about it overshifting. any help on the durability of these transmissions would be great

The vette unit has a syncro setup all by itself . I would suggest installing new rings throughout the unit and upgrade the 3-4 fork to a steel one .

thanks for the info. do you know if the vette has internal stops that the camaro,t/a doesn't have. i have read that somewhere but if i upgrade my shifter i have found some have adjustable stops and others say they don't because the trans has internal stops and there is no need for the shifter to have adjustable stops. that just sounds a little fishy to me

Both units have a shift selector plate that the shift selector fits into but the tolerances are not close enough to prevent over shifting . I would suggest a shifter with stops on it .
