Default Shifter whine

I was pulling pretty hard on the shifter while installing my UMI short stick and now i hear a constant whine/static noise coming from my factory hurst. What did i bend/break and how can i fix it?

did your factory stick have a rubber part in the stick ? I put a b&m ripper shifter in my 95 and I hear a whining sound the ripper is a solid stick from base to **** I think the noise is tranfered from the tranny to the inside of the car through that. that factory shifter had a rubber isolator to stop that kind of noise. may this helps

i dont think you broke anything, im almost positive. i have the 5.0 and as far as i know its a common thing when you install any of these shifters. I was a little concerned about it at first myself, but if you turn on your radio or roll down the windows to listen to your exhaust you really shouldn't hear anything at all.

Everything's fine, the UMI is solid mount vs the factory rubber bushing. Mine has a bit of a vibrating sound as well from time to time, it's normal.

Wow. I read a bunch of stuff about this happening when changing to a pro 5.0 or ripper but i didn't think i would get it from just a short stick. Well as long as i didn't break anything. I was about ready to order a used 5.0 tonight but i guess the hurst still has some life left. Thanks for reply's. Oh yah, has anyone found a way to minimize this noise?

I've got that same noise too. I can actually hear the gears in my trany spin. Strange. Anyways, I got use to the sound. I was starting to put some sound absorbing material like Dynamat for car stereo installations. Try some around the base of your stick and maybe on the shifter essembly under the rubber boot underneath the leather boot. Let me know how it works out. Otherwise you will just have to get use to it.

I notice I have a lot of whinning when I have my car in a higher gear and the R's are under 2k. Once it passes 2k it goes away. What is that??

Give her what she wants. At least that's what keeps my girl from whinning. LOL. Just kidding, I really don't know what it is. What kind of shifter do you have? Is it a loud whine?

I tried the Dynamat around the boot and stick, it didn't help at all. It's just noise that you're gonna have to live with with an aftermarket shifter.
