Default 6 speed isolator cup???

i hear you can just get the cup from a ford dealership, is this true? if so do you have a part number?? gm wants to sell me the whole shifter ***. for $67. second question: the factory one looks like it was glued in, does this need to be glued in??? and what to glue it in with???

while i'm askin questions, my shifter was rubbing the console and it wore through both rubber boots, does anyone else have this prob??? i don't think the trans mount is bad, but i haven't checked it out yet. i'm sure the console was on correct, anyone have any ideas???

The same cup is a loose part in the T5 and can be had by both GM and Ford dealers. The T56 requires this to be epoxied in place( why it is only sold as an assembly for the T56).

Yes, it must be epoxied. Be careful and full clean the old stuff out( without dropping it in the trans) and use a 3m scotchweld 2-part epoxy. Be sure it ( the socket ( actually called a tiz bushing) is seated fully . I forget the set time but its in the 8-12 hour range. Did you get a socket/bushing yet?

The gates on a 6 speed are more cramped( 1 extra over the 5 speed) and will cause the cup to ride up and interfere with the shift linkage.

I got one from Thunder racing and they told me they have installed and sold hundreds of them and never epoxied them. When I did mine I didnt' epoxy it and haven't had any trouble at all with it.

I don't think I would want to be a repeat customer of thoe"hundereds" of buyers that were mis-guided. If you don't glue them you will be replacing them again.

You can get just the cup from the dealership. You don't need to epoxy them. The replacment is actually not plastic. It's almost like a phenolic material. If you're getting the white plasitc cup, then that's why you need to keep replacing it.

No, the original /factory cup is an engineered plastic (peak) it is not a phenolic and it comes in a sort of brownish tan color . After some heat/ use it tuns darker brown. Again, it must be glued.

I guess I meant it looks like a phenolic material.

FWIW, I don't know if you *need* to glue it, but I have never done so and I have never had a problem.
