Another development- I bought an Exedy stock replacement master and I realized after cutting the rod that it was already longer than the Luk master I had previously. Even better was the fact that the stopper on the inside was already short and almost exactly the same size as the cut one I had in previously.

Moral of the story, get an Exedy stock replacement and no mod needed (most likely)
