Possible worn clutch?

Possible worn clutch? Just got the car, it has 38,000 miles on it and a stock clutch. The grab of the clutch is about an inch away from the end of the peddle, is this "normal"? The clutch doesnt slip at all, it seems to grab fine, its just that it grabs much farther up than any other manual car Ive driven.
I don't really understand if the clutch engages an inch off the floor, or an inch away from barely pushing in the pedal. If it engages real close to the floor, then you might just need to flush out the old fluid with new fluid, then bleed the system for any air. A mityvac helps a whole lot when doing this.
