Reverse dead on a T56!?

Default Reverse dead on a T56!?

Interesting situation unfolding for me. Ever since maybe 2-3 days ago, my T/A refuses to stay in reverse without me physically holding the shifter in gear, and even then it'll sometimes pop right out and give me that lovley griiiind!

Has anybody esle had a situation like this? Is reverse known for going out for no good reason? I've had similar things happen to me in Honda trannys where you'll bend a fork while shifting and it'll pop out of gear, but reverse!?

Any input would be greatly apprieciated!

Edit, I meant shift fork sounds bent.

Anytime you jump out of gear, there is a risk of damaging forks and fork pads(if there are any). On Fcars it is most common to see reverse damage due to mis-shifting. That is crashing reverse when intending 5th. Enough times of that and the clutching teeth are so damaged the gear will not stay engaged. It could be that your fork is bent/ damaged and you can just swap the fork.

Mine is the same way. Pops out everytime unless i kinda feather the clutchand let it idle in reverse. I just deal with it until i kill my tranny completly. Just park on an incline.

I think you hit the nail on the head. I know more than once I've tried hitting 5th during a hard spurt and I'll get a really bad *CRUUUUNCH!* instead, it only dawned on me now that it isn't 5th, it's reverse

I'm hoping it's just a case of a slightly bent fork and that alone will solve it, I don't know about F-bodies, but Honda gearset are AWFULLY expensive to replace..
