Default Launching

I've done a search but can't seem to find anything on the subject. The car is an 00 m6 with 40ish k miles. I've been reading and alot of people break their 10 bolts is it just because they launch at 3-4k rpms? So what should I launch at w/o worrying about me breaking my tranny? Also what tires should I get for my stock polished SS rims, thx,

Nitto 555r is a great street/strip tire.W/nittos I would do a controlled clutch dump.I would describe it as letting up on the clutch equal to flooring the gas pedal.I got low 1.8X 60' with this technique with a 4.10 equiped 10 bolt.It takes time to master but works great.

you will not hurt that tranny, but using the clutch just right is the key to not killing the 10 bolt but not frying the stock clutch. have fun

I know it can happen but, I wouldnt worry about breaking your rear until you get sticky tires.

Well I was thinking about getting the Mickey Thompsons drag radials, those sticky? I don't have traction controll on my car so I definatly need sticky's, can you be specific like rev it up to 1.5k then dump the cluctch let it grip then floor it or something like that, thank you!!

As glennster said above it's a "controlled clutch dump" I leave at part throttle/4000 rpm & feed it clutch & throttle to stay at the edge of traction. By the time it's wound out in 1st the clutch is fully engaged & the I'm standing on the gas. Takes some practice my best 60' is 1.75.

3500-4000 rpm and just dump it hard and fast and floor it
worked great for me when i had a stock clutch and nittos

did not break anything and got mid to low 1.8s that way

hey this is how i look at it
if you are willing to run your car at the track you have to be willing to except that you might break something...plain and simple

if you want to go fast...stuff breaks but sometimes it does not

its rolling the dice when you launch hard on drag radials but like i said i did fine but i would not do it if you have a spec clutch or something simular becasue it wont be maybe i will break...you will break

so just go to the track and beat the shiz out of it

Lont time no post by controlled launch do you mean like drop the clutch slowly and let it slip a little I dont go to the track it'd be stoplight racing, lol maybe concrete maybe asphalt TTT

I second that motion!!! This is answering questions that I had too....I like that "Controlled Clutch Dump" segment. I'll stash that tid-bit upstairs...

I had a similar concern/thread on another forum. I was told; roll off the clutch and onto the throttle and your rear will thank you for it. Stickys are the quickest way to kill it. That and 3500-4k clutch "DUMPS". I've never been to the track but I don't think it's a "DUMP". It seems more of a "CONTROLLED" rapid clutch engagement. If you're that nervous about it, I wouldn't think a Stud Girdle could do any harm. Kind of stifens up the rear from deflection. I understand your concern. I don't have $2000 to throw at a rear right now, either. I like smoking 2nd but I like my rear better.

Pretty much you rev the car to 4k or whatever rpm you chose. When the light turns......last yellow for me.....you start letting the clutch out. As soon as you feel the drivetrain is all loaded and the car starts to move let out on the clutch as quick as possible by moving your leg back...NOT sidestepping it, and roll quickly into the throttle. I did this method when I ran my 12.99 time at the track with only lid/filter. The key is to have the drivetrain "preloaded" when you exert the force to it. It's the sudden "shock" to the rear from it just setting there and then dumping the clutch all at once with no preload on the drivetrain that increases the risk of it blowing. To help even more as your getting into postion for the run, either lining up on the street or staging..........ALWAYS roll FORWARD....and as you are getting very close to where you need to be let the clutch out a little at a time as you go those last few inches or foot. This will have it where it will take less motion for the drivetrain to be fully loaded upon the launch. Good luck
