Default Spec III installed (results)

Just got the car back together and on the ground last night. After letting it warm up I decided to take it out and see how it felt. I immediately noticed how much firmer and how much faster the pedel came up to the top. On top of all that i was incredibly impressed with how balanced it is. (I had the fly and PP mated and balanced before installation) Now I was taking it very easy but one thing i was expected to feel was SOME sort of chattering but I don't have ANY at all ?? On the way to work this morning I let out kind fast while hitting the gate in 2nd and it just grabbed like a ****, but there is absolutly NO jerkyness and NO chattering.. I did wipe off all the oil on both the fly and PP be installation and i bled the slave afterwards (PITA) btw. I am betting with time it will start to chatter a bit and then go away...Anyhow so far i am 100% satistfied with my Spec III.

Glad to hear that, I am looking at buying a spec III, for my 01 z28.
Its seems like spec is the most popular with sales, but has hate it or love it reputation.

how was the install?

The install went very well. I had everything out in 4hrs. I would estimate that I could have had the whole thing done in 2days but i got into it with the guy who turned and balanced my fly&PP (LONG STORY). Things to watch out for...
1. Clutch disc is perfectly aligned with the pilot bearning hole.
2. Pilot bearing puller (Rent from autozone)
3. Hydralic line disconnet tool (Slave cylinder)
4. Tourqe arm mount on the side of the trans (PITFA) to reinstall good luck!
5. Drain the trans b4 taking off
6. 1st seperate the trans from bellhousing...then bell.h from engine.
7. Freeze plug in the end of the crank (be careful removing the pilot bearing)

That's all i can think of for now...
If you have any questions ...feel free to PM!

OH and BTW she's chattering quite nicely now!

I just want to throw in another possibility. I no longer drain my trans when removing it. I just get a tailshaft plug (available at most auto stores for $3). I don't like refilling the darn thing while its in the car, I end up wearing most of the fluid.

i just had mine installed a couple weeks ago too. I noticed it chattering more as i was driving it, a lot. I was breaking it in for about 500 miles, and i noticed around after 600 miles the clutch feels a lot better. the thing grabs like crazy a i like it a lot. most people that complain about them see problems after you put about 1000 miles on them though, but who knows what went wrong there. the guy that installed mine had been putting them in all of the car he worked on and made sure they were broken in properly and no one had problems yet (except for one guy who ended up making about 700 rwhp who needed to upgrade to a spec5). just my .02 on the spec

Well with 700rwhp that's completely understandable...But like you said its really too early to make a good judgement on how this clutch will work out for me... I just wanted to comment on how it felt post-installation. So far so good!

its funny cause on his setup they were thinking he would need maybe 600 rwhp at most..lol
the clutch feels so good when its broken in. i dont think it chatters anymore, but then again i might just be used to it
