Re: Carbon drive shaft + light fly wheel = what RWHP?
I gained 0rwhp from a carbon fiber shaft...its 2lbs lighter.
The alum flywheel wont gain you much either...dyno's happen in 4th gear and the drivetrain doesnt have to spin up that fast anyways. However, in 1st gear you'll feel the lighter flywheel for sure! In my car at one point during my modding, the flywheel was the difference between spinning the tires all through first, and keeping traction all through first. Easily felt like 30-40rwhp in 1st gear, maybe 5rwhp in 2nd, no noticable difference in 3rd or higher gears.
So, i'd say 1rwhp gain on a dyno with both those items you list. I didnt gain that with mine, but heck...I'll be conservative on the 1rwhp number

light weight flywheels are great for auto cross and road racing , but suck at the track!!!
i have one right now and can't wait to get it out and put a steel one in .
at the track it's hard to launch cause you have to rev it up and when you dump it the car jumps forward then bogs!
even if you increase the rpm's you'll still do that till you loose traction. if you want my opinion stick with the heavy steel flywheel.

Thats exactly what my car does, and I'm 100% fine with it. I'd rather have a fun car to drive around...1st gear is just awesome. I go to the drag strip only a few times a year so its fine for me. But like you said, this isnt a mod for drag racers. I couldnt ever imagine going back to the stock weight flywheel...bleh.

Thanks!
SO, I guess I would not get the drive shaft. But since I have the engine is out, I would get a new clutch kit with an aluminum flywheel because street racing is more towards my forte

Didn't Trevor (from Dallas/Plano) have a 6-7rwhp dyno gain on his 382 stroker with the CF driveshaft?

I still think you will gain at the track, especially if you have gears and high shift points. Having less drivetrain mass to accelerate has to result in more power going to accelerate the rear wheels. I think the theory is similar to a pulley. The ASP pulley frequently shows nothing at the dyno but almost everyone reports .1 gain at the track.

I picked up 2 RWHP w/ the CFDS over the aluminum one with my 382. It could've easily been just a normal variance between dyno pulls, so I'd expect 0 HP from the CFDS. It'll be stronger, though.

Re: Carbon drive shaft + light fly wheel = what RWHP?
I dyno 405rwhp each and every time I go to the dyno....at least 8 times I've hit exactly 405, and some of those times I had a carbon fiber shaft, some an aluminum.
I'd definitly get the light flywheel tho...that thing is awesome.
And as for a pulley/alum flywheel not showing up as much on the dyno, like I said, 4th gear doesnt have to spin things up very fast so losses like that wont be huge. In 1st gear, you gotta accelerate a lot of stuff really fast, which is why the pulley and flywheel help a lot in 1st and 2nd gear, but not so much in 3rd or 4th gear.
