Cartek clutch install... missing something obvious here?
OK, I went to install the pressure plate and clutch disc, and the dowel pins in the flywheel are preventing them from being installed. There are no holes for them in the pressure plate.
The instructions say nothing about removing the dowel pins, and the machine shop did reinstall them after the flywheel was resurfaced.
Do the dowel pins need to come out? Sheesh, you'd think that would be part of the instructions or something. <img src="images/icons/rolleyes.gif" border="0">
And if they do need to come out, I guess I'll have to fab something up...
Thanks,
-Andrew

Thanks. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">
I punched them out the backside of the flywheel. Didn't want to pull the flywheel (after I torqued and loctited it), but it was easier that way.
Bellhousing's on now, just gotta bleed the clutch, and it's all downhill from here. <img src="graemlins/fluffy.gif" border="0" alt="[Fluffy]" />
Next weekend, 12-bolt. <img src="gr_stretch.gif" border="0">

Yep, Cartek's pressure plate doesn't have provisions for the dowel pins. All I used was a punch and knocked the dowels out from the back. I have had to do this on the few Cartek clutches I have installed.
Also, every Cartek I put in came pre-bled. It made the job much easier (assuming you purchased the new slave and master cyl).

Re: Cartek clutch install... missing something obvious here?
I did get new hydraulics from Cartek. The master cyl had fluid in it, but the slave was not attached, so I'm 'assuming' that I need to bleed this system. Although, the trans is now in the car, and I felt the pedal, and it actually felt OK. Don't have the shifter in yet to test, though.
Sucks how GM routed the bleed valve in the trans. <img src="graemlins/gr_barf.gif" border="0" alt="[barf]" /> Nothing like not seeing what you're doing, only to get fluid everywhere. At least, that's what I assume will happen, I haven't bled it yet.
Time for bed. <img src="graemlins/gr_zzz.gif" border="0" alt="[boring]" />
