Default quick question about trans

I have a 96 camaro rs 5spd.
Ive been looking everywhere to find out if a 305 from a 1992 iroc would work with my transmission but i havent found any answers so i decided to post here. if not is there a cheap way to make it work so will i have i have buy a whole transmission? i dont know much about cars at all, i know how to drive them and thats pretty much it. a guy i work with took the 305 out of the iroc and put it in his el camino, he's droping a 327 in that and selling the engine to me for $100 assuming it compatable with my car.

I'll try to answer your question the best I can .

No , it will work as a direct replacement . The later model T5 units like yours used a Ford bolt pattern to bolt up to the bellhousing . The earlier T5's in the 3rd gens used a Gm bolt pattern .

In order for you to use a 305/305 in your car , you'd have to use a 3rd gen bellhousing and transmission (or have the guts out of yours put in an earlier model world class case) .

I have everything you would need to go either way if you are interested in doing the swap .
