Default T56 threshhold?

At what brake power level should one consider upgrading beyond an LS6 clutch?

did the customary searches but found nothing definitive.

thanks,
Rob

You're not going to find anything definitive. The vehicle weight, axle ratio, and how well your tires hook all play a role in whether your clutch will hold x amount of power. I just waited until mine started slipping under power, then decided it was time to change it.

a vague answer for a vague question. ;o)

Is an ls6 clutch going to be able to hack a 500hp procharded LS6 with stock internals and a 4.1 rear. I'm assuming it is not.

A LS6 clutch may have problems being hot lapped by a stocker @ the track. As would other clutches as well. Not an area to skimp on IMO. Spend some $$ & get a good clutch.
But that clutch may hold for a little while, sounds like your over-geared for a force induction anyway w/4.10's.

Thanks for the intel, I was planning on an upgraded clutch but I was also curious as to what the stocker could hold. Yeah I'm pretty much stuck with a 4.1 or 3.9 rear in my RX-7 so Ihave to work around that as custom cut ring and pinions are extremely expensive. Are t56 gear sets readily available? perhaps I could gear down inside the trans with taller gears if the price isn't too astronomical?

I'm putting a v8 in an Rx7 as well...as far as gearing down the T-56, it won't happen. They never made an Ls1 with 4.10's stock behind it, so they would have to be custom made. a cheaper alternative would be to put a dana 36 or 44 rear from a C4 or viper out back. Check out www.misred.com, he did it. And www.v8rx7.com as well.

I've been through 2 LS6 clutch's and they are suprisingly durable handling H/C power level cars on STREET TIRES. Add Slicks or DR's and it will start to fail. The DD and once a year Drag racer the LS6 clutch go together nicely. Your setup I would go quite a bit stronger however....

My plans are to just use the T-56 as is. With the .5:1 6th gear in the T-56 people have seen 2000 rpm @ 70-80 mph and 30 mpg on the higwhay. Drag racing will be fun though...luckily I can shift pretty fast.

My stock clutch was fine stock with 100 shot on street tires, but it gave out when I put nittos on the car.
