Default T-5 question

Will a T-5 directly bolt onto an LS1 or is there a kit you have to buy?

Could be an LS1 transplant and a T56 wont fit. An install behind an LT1 would be more straight forward. No I know of no readily avalable kit. Yes you can do this if you fabricate a clutch housing . I would start with the V6 Fcar part and "graft" the LS1 fear face of block bolt pattern to it. Then you have a release system avalable to use. You will want to use a different T5 gear set that the V6 used. I suggest a '96 0r so V8 Fcar set( 2.95 low gear ratio) . The 3.75 in the V6 would not mats the LS1 well.

just an fyi, but i dont think that a t5 will last long behind and LT1 or an LS1 with very much abuse. my friend had one behind a weaks *** 305 and it would hold up for **** i cant remember how may different trannys he has had. not trying to be a jerk just letting you know about my experiences with the T5.

yup, especially if it's an earlier non-"world class" T5. One trip to the track with sticky tires and it'd be done in the burnout box. If space is an issue Tremec makes a T-5 that's rated for much more torque than the original.

Actually you can use a 82-92 bellhousing and it will bolt up to the LS1 except for 1 bolt hole . The 88 and later units from the V8's were a 2.95 ratio and were world class as well . Stronger than the non world class but I doubt they would hold up for any long period of time behind an Ls1 engine . You'd be much better off with a T56 or a Gm 4 speed such as a Muncie or Super T10 unit . Richmond has some nice 5 speeds as well .

I know you already said that your buddy went with a Lt1 but I am just posting this for FYI .
