Default How do I recognize an upgraded slave cylinder?

Today I finally received my M6 swap kit
It comes from a 99 Camaro and everyting should be original...
The complete clutch assembly looks pretty new (??), also the slave cylinder.

In the back of the slave it shows the GM number 15046288 and in the front a "2".
This is usually the way GM identify the manufacturing year. Is it a 2002 slave?

I'm not sure because on a GM manual I saw:
15046288 for 98-99 models
12565145 for 01-02 models

Any idea? I was worried about having a 99 but maybe the old owner (unknown) already replaced it with a new one.

As I started to drill the hydraulic (drill mod) the drill went right through the connector... someone already did the job!!!

I think you have the old 99 slave. In the GM service system it is still listed for the 99 vehicles. The newer part number is correct for 2001 & 2002 and should be what everyone upgrades to. I upgraded my clutch and master to the 2001 stuff when the original 99' slave wore out under warranty. You can always try it, but I am not sure how long it will last for you.

Thank you.
So you think the "2" is not the production year?
I saw at least 2 vendors selling the upgraded slave cylinder under the old part number - pretty confusing!

When I replaced mine, I didn't visually see a difference between the new and old one. There must have been internal upgrades.

Internally it's so simple: a "square o-ring" and a metal shim.
The oil pressure moves the O-ring against the TO bearing. The shim is just to have a good contact to the holder of the TO bearing.
What can be wrong in such a simple construction? I can imagine the rubber may be too soft and leak under extreme conditions...

I still don't know what the number "2" and the 3 dots on the aluminum piece means.
Isn't this March 2002????

I just went through this, the 288 is the number for the old one. But guess what? It's now the number of the new one. The 288 is the one you want.

fine, but what is mine? it ends with 288: is it the old or the new one?
It was on a 99 tranny and I don't know if the old owner did the upgrade or not.
THe clutch assembly was almost new and the drill mod was already done so I hope the old owner also replaced the slave cylinder.
As you wrote the numbers are the same, the only thing I see is the number 2 (two) on front of the aluminum piece (see my 1st post for pictures).
This number is surrounded by 12 fields, 3 of them have a dot and it looks like it was the production date: March 2002. Is it possible??????
Or is it an old one?

March '02 production date would make it a new one.

Thank you for the explaination

The question is not "would it be new if it was a 2002?"

The question is "is it a 2002?"
