Default Turning a aluminum flywheel.....when does it become "under spec"?

I am going to try and run a used aluminum flywheel out of a buddy's car. It's been turned a couple of times already, and has some heat spots in it from the last use. Do these flywheels have a certain "spec" for turning/cutting before they can't be used anymore?
