My m6 formy was almost undrivable when I first got it due to the notchiness and gears grinding. However, after installing an ls2 clutch kit and slave cylinder, it's almost like a brand new car. Still notchy and 3rd and 5th still grind every once in a while, but 80% better than the the stock setup. By the way, I got 130K on the car and 6k on the clutch setup.

i thought i was losing my transmission after 150,000 miles because of this, but looks like the notch is normal. i think im gonna get a hurst shifter, that way you atleast dont feel it because it takes extra muscle to get in and out of gears normally

Mine is definitly NOT notchey. Even with the pro 5.0 shifter. I think a good clutch w/ a new slave and well bled hydraulics is the cure for a notchey tranny. When mine starts to feel notchey then I usually can get the mity vac on it and bleed out a few more air bubbles.

I was having some clutch problems (would sometime be hard/impossible to shift into 1st and 2nd out of neutral) and decided to completely flush and bleed my clutch. Not only did that fix my shifting problem, it greatly reduced the notchiness of my tranny. I think I can still feel a little bit, but not much. It really does seem like it's more of a clutch issue than a tranny issue.

Yeah if your clutch and hydraulics are properly functioning the T-56 shifts well and smooth. There are just too many things that can go wrong that end up not getting fixed and being blamed on the tranny.

Kinda notchy here, i just figured it was a MAN's tranny.
Not any of that "it just falls into gear, sissy crap"

Dexron III here BTW. Going to switch to GM Dexron soon though, my pops says it helps a bit. Reverse can be kinda tricky at times though especially when cold.

My 01 ws6 shifts like butter ZERO notchieness, running a Pro 5.0 shifter with royal purple synchromax with ZERO problems. My 2000 T/A on the other hand has the exact same stuff and parts, pro 5.0 shifter, synchromax oil, new clutch, slave, and master cylinder and It is the notchiest feeling I ever felt, even after it warms up its still notchie as ****. It feels like the shifter stops mid stride and then goes into gear like something is binding it up a little.

I rebuilt mine with performance parts becaus it was shifting notchy and wasn't able to shift without feeling a stop between the gears.
I also replaced clutch and hydraulics (both stock, new).
New shifter too. Tried different oils too.
Result: nothing! Same feeling as before!

The internal parts were all in good condition, but something is the cause of this behaviour. Maybe something out of specs? Maybe some contact surface is too raw?

The same transmission is installed in other (real) sport car like Aston Martin and (when hydraulically actuated) they are able to shift a fraction of a second.
What is wrong with our cars? Are we getting the second choice?
