I don't think the pedal should feel different with the car on or off, nor should it stick to the floor, nor should it pump-up.

However, the free-play at the top and the clicking sound are both symptoms of a broken clutch pedal return spring. That broken spring is benign to the functioning of the clutch. It's just there to give a uniform pedal feel throughout the entire range.

The pedal return spring is inside the car at the top of the clutch pedal. When it breaks you don't get a dangling pedal at all, but rather you get what you describe.

Sometimes the spring breaks and still partially works but provides decreased pedal resistance and might include squeaking or grinding sounds.

Many people learn to deal with it because it seems most people's springs eventually break and replacement springs break too, are expensive, and difficult to install.

Mine has been broken for a couple of years now and I'm not in any hurry to replace it.

Sorry. You should be able to find it by searching the archives for 'clutch pedal spring'. There is a TSB out on it. You might be able to find the TSB online somewhere.

i toook the spring out and it seemed that it didnt do much. but then when i put it back in it felt easier to push down and it was easier for longer.

If it was easier to push down after the spring went back in then perhaps you didn't put it in properly (under enough tension)?

I too wonder if perhaps it's just a perception problem. Drive it a while and give it some time.

Mike just worries about **** way to much..lol. When I get down there, I will help you bleed the clutch and see if that will help.

the clutch pedal feel felt a lot better with the spring out, i just wish there was a way to get the pedal to come back up all the way and stay there and get there far.
