My thoughts exactly. Why would you even think of not using 5th on the highway?

5th but that only because I have a big cam and factory 3.42's and it sputters below 2200rpms. In the city 5th and 6th are deemed unusable.

4.11's mean 6th for me. 75 is about 2000 rpm, but I still see right at 30 highway.

City mpg's are another story

5th @ 2200 going 70 6th also feels like it bogs too much + it sounds good going under overpasses lol

wow after reading 4 pages, all the posts began to get repetitive.

6th gear is a cruising highway gear. Get up to your desired speed, shift into 6th, and hold your speed in that gear, period.
higher RPM mean without a doubt the engine is using more fuel. Ignition is also firing faster, so it needs more fuel to burn as well (they don't design engines to dry fire).

COMMON SENSE!!!

I just try to keep it above 1400-1500 rpms. Any lower could be lugging the engine. So my rule of thumb to use the highest gear possible while keeping the engine spinning at above 1400-1500 rpms.

I figured this would be a good place to ask this question...

In 6th gear going around 60-65mph if I use any more than just a gentle touch of the throttle the car starts shaking like crazy. I know it's not good for the engine to push it in 6th gear but I don't know if shaking is how it's supposed to behave (is that what bogged down means?) or if something is wrong here.

Thanks!

What rpms are you at at that mph? Is this on a flat road?

Personally, with my cam, I can not let 6th gear go below 1300rpms or it begins to bog.
