Default Help in choosing a clutch

Hey Guys, I am becoming ever so close to needing a clutch. Currently my car has just "bolt-ons" and no internal stuff, but I am planning at least a new CAM and Headers. Anyway, I want to know what Clutch package to buy. I've heard that the Z06 clutch really isn't all that much better than my stock Z28 clutch. I will only be in the 350-400 rwhp range...eventually. No NOS, No Super or Turbo chargers planned. Also, what "should" I change out? What is typically replaced? Should I purchase a package or just the parts needed?(i.e., Flywheel, master cyl., etc.) Also, I'm not interested in spending thousands of dollars to get this done, I guess somewhere midrange is what I would be interested in. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" />

I would go with the Star Spec Stage III, you can either get the kevlar or carbon disc...that clutch holds pretty damn good... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I would go ZO-6 for the power you are making.
I keep hearing Spec's blowing up after 5k miles.

For the money the Ram 402 Pressure plate and the 6130 disk are hard to beat. With your current power level, yo may consider using the 300 series disk. It is supposed to be a softer engaging disk than the 6130. I got my 402/6130 setup for $320.

I have killed 1 stock clutch, and 2 Z06 ones. At the time I was less than 370 rwhp. If you launch on et streets or something else that hooks the Z06 will not hold for long. I got 3 5000rpm launches with 1.6 60' times out of it and bye bye.

I now have the CARTEK one with the adjustable master. It works great. A bit pricy, but when my engine was out recently I got to look at the wear pattern on the flywheel and pressure plate I could see a definite difference. There is a nice even pattern all the way across both surfaces where the GM ones had a bunch of smaller contact spots and many spots that I could still see the original machine marks from manufacturing.

I have not been to the track yet this year with the Cartek one, but I have no doubt that it will hold. I will be sure to post my results of 5000+ RPM launches on ET Streets. I too have heard a lot of bad things about SPEC, never heard a bad thing about Cartek.

heard some bad things about the older carteks, decided to go with the ram, haven't heard anything bad about them, only got 500 miles but seems good to me. I'll let you know after I spray it
