Default New SPEC 5 squealing but for how long?

Me and a friend just put in a SPEC 5 with Mcleod scatter shield. The only problem is the cutch squeals like a stuck pig. Will this metal to metal noise stop soon? It is embarassing taking off from a traffic light.

I do not own one but have done a good amount of research on them because I was gonna get one. From what I've read, no, it won't stop squealing. Some do it regularly others not so much.

Mine still squeals sometimes, but it stopped for the most part after 300-400 miles. I think its a great clutch and worth a little squealling. I have 1300 miles on mine and about 50-60 track passes and that thing grabs like a ****. I love it and think it drives great on the street vs my old ram vds setup.

I have close to 3k on mine and it still squeels now and then. Was a pain for the 1st 800 miles or so.
It will get better with time.
Has been a great clutch with the excption of the "pig" noise.

It will probably come & go. Also, over time you will figure out how to engauge it so it won't squeak. You just have to concentrate harder than you would engauging a regular clutch. You should be very happy- Spec 5's are totally driveable and hold extremely well. They do great at the track too. I love mine.

I had a Spec 4 Kevlar on my last T/A. It grabbed hard and worked well, but it squealed for 10k miles. I HATED the squealing and it IS embarassing at a redlight or parking lot.

man it depends on how much horsepower your planning the specs squeal for about the first 500 miles but as factory recommends you need to stay off the gas during breakin they reccomend 800 miles or something i cant remember exactly or the noise will be with you for the life of the clutch check it out of course i didnt know that and i got on mine quite frequently but i guess i was lucky because the squeaks stopped

I have driven both and to me my stage 5 seemed a lot more streetable, just don't know how long it will last on the street. I read the other day that another members went out after 12000 miles. Since I don't drive mine everyday I would be very satisfied with that. That member was also running over 600rwhp and said he abused the clutch all the time. Do a search I am sure you will find the post.

FWIW SPEC 4 requires a 500 mile break in and the SPEC 5 requires no break in.

how did it seem more streetable?

stg 5 is just going to be total overkill for my set up, and with the noise, i don't know if i should get it

but it doesn't need broken in or anything....

I drove the stage 4 and it was very in and out engaged really hard there is absolutely no slippage allowed. My spec 5 actually lets you slip it just a tad on street and vs my Ram VDS that was on the car the pedal feel is so much nicer. You want an unstreetable clutch go get a ram vds and try pushing that clutch all day. Stage 5 may be overkill for you as I already outlined a possible timeline from another post that it could last and it is "Supposed" to be a strip only clutch, but to me its the best clutch I've had on the street to date. The noise doesn't bother me all(majority of it is gone now) as long as I know I am reaping very good performance benefits.

i am looking for 400-450wrhp, plus 150 wet shot ontop of that, which puts me at 550-600+wrtq?

with nittos, 9", and high RPM clutch dumps, at the track

though i only go to the track a few times a year, rest of the time is on the street. But even then, she doesn't get out that much.

thinkin' stg 5 might be the way to go, i'd just hate for it to squeal so bad

450hp+15the hit which kills the clutch --if it hooks.

So far we had a Spec 5 last 12k miles on a car that would eat a clutch in less than 4k everytime. We had 2 Mcleods explode the disks,1 Cartek just let go and the stage 3 didn't last long with big power.

The clutch lasts longer if you don't slip it much.

I just put 1000 miles on my new spec5 this past week driving home from GMR in OH. I love the pedal feel and the grab. It took me a few tries to get used to the different engagement but after that I have not had a problem. Yeah the squealing is a bit embarassing cause people don't know what it is and think your car is screwed up or something. Hopefully it will go away soon. Overall=very happy with the spec5 on a DD!

How come the T56 record is 9.4 on a Mc Cloud Dual Disc then?

You blew 2 McCloud Dual Disc set ups?

It's probably not that it took that particular clutch to get there.....just that's the clutch the guy was using who got that time. JMO
