Economy shifting

Hey all!
Just had a quick question for those with an M6.... what is the best way to shift in order to save gas? I usually start off in 1st, shift to 4th, then end in 6th... all in low speeds.. makes driving the SS a bit uncomfortable...
I know the SS is meant to be driven hard and to have fun with it, and I do, however, there are times where I need to save on gas as much as possible.
Any help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

I go through every gear and always keep it under 2K RPM's. Very good on gas. Better than my V6 Accord.

you didnt get an fbody to get good gas mileage, enjoy the car and take the hit to the wallet
but when there is a time i need to get good gas mileage, 1,2,3, never going above 1200rpm, then stay in 4th til 1500 and then 5th, thats what i do, it seems to work a lil better, but then i never go more than a day w/ out saying screw this, i hate driving my car like this, then its back to normal non efficient driving

Just read the owners manual:
1>2 @ 15 mph
2>3 @ 25 mph
3>4 @ 35 mph
4>5 @ 45 mph
5>6 @ 55 mph
This how it is printed in our owners maual and works very well. I constantly do this and I get 24 mpg all city and 32-33 mpg all freeway. Just my 2 cents though.

I'll do 1-4-5-6 if I'm on even ground or going downhill and 1-3-5-6 if I'm going up hill, maybe 1-2-4-5-6 if it's steep. The trick is to use as little RPM as possible, skip as many gears as pssoble, accelerate as slow as possible, but make sure you're in a gear that you're not too low in RPM. The way I can tell is if I'm using more than like 15% pedal I'm in too low a gear so just make a mental note of that next time. But try and cruise at a speed that will put you in an idle RPM in that gear. Like cruising at 1500 rpms is money! I know it sounds like a lot to go over, but really it becomes second nature.
Best of luck,
Mike
