Default Bad throwout bearing?

I've been battling some of the usual clutch demons but this is the latest:

When the clutch is engaged it's nice and quiet. When it is disengaged, in gear or in neutral, I get a rattling sound. It almost sounds like an old car where the fan would occasionally hit the fan shroud. It will also sometimes 'groan'. That is a sound I remember from some of my older cars with mechanical throwout bearings. The rattling is something I've never experienced.

Any ideas?

Sounds like it could be the throw out bearing. I would suggest new clutch kit if you are going in to change the bearing. Usually the throw out bearing will whine sqeaul when the clutch is disengaged.
